Brad Beirne, 10, also known as “Throwdown Kid,” gets ready to shoot at the Fort White Gun Club Saturday. Brad is part of the Cowboy Action Shoot where shooters dress and act as if they are in the 1800s. Brad recently came in sixth place for his age category, called the Buckaroos, at a recent World Championship competition in New Mexico.

Brad and his dad Terry go over gun safety and the sequences of which different guns need to be pulled out during the course.

Derek Beirne, 16, also known as “Bad Lands Drifter,” gets ready to reload his gun. Derek was recently named World Champion in his age category, called the Young Guns.

Gini Bernal, 13, also known as “Hawkeye Gin,” raises her hand as she finishes shooting. Gini recently won a World Championship title for her age category, called Buckarettes.

Area’s only water park open to public for just one day only this Sunday

River Ranch at Camp Kulaqua In High Springs opens its private water park to the public for just two days each year – last Sunday and this upcoming Sunday, July 12.

The water park features a wave pool, a lazy river and even a water slide.


The cost for the day is $10 for adults, with children three and under free. The park will be ope from 10 a.m. yo 6 p.m.

Camp Kalaqua is a Christian retreat facility.


Shown in the pictures are children and adults alike enjoying last Sunday’s open day at the park.

Testing the Features of Newberry’s New 3-D Archery Range

National Alliance for the Development of Archery in Newberry was hosting its first archery tournament Saturday at the site of the future archery facility and sports complex.

Located about a mile north of downtown Newberry off of U.S. 27 North, people young and old came to enjoy the event with archery courses set up on the field away from the construction of the building.
